We are keen to plant trees in suitable places around Winslow. In November 2022 we planted our first copse on the allotment field. Species include native rowan, hazel, oak, hawthorn and field maple.
We would also like to encourage people to grow on the tiny tree seedlings that we all have growing in our gardens.
If you know of anywhere else that might be suitable for planting trees or would like to pass on a small tree seedling please contact us at greenerwinslow@gmail.com
Planting the first trees on the allotment field in 2022. We have added more trees each year and there are now about 300 trees.
Men in Sheds made us a beautiful signboard and the Vicar, as Chair of Winslow Charities, unveiled it.
We have a small group, including two local ecologists, looking at green areas in Winslow and researching the history of the places and then recording the plants and animals that we find there. We hope to compile a series of green trails using this information and publish them on our website for everyone to use. They should make local walks more interesting in the future.
The community allotment
This successful project was started by Mark Bolton with some hard-working volunteers. The allotment provides fresh fruit and vegetables to the St Laurence Food Cupboard.
The community orchard
The first orchard trees were planted in autumn 2024 on the allotment field. There are a good selection of heritage apple varieties, as well as plums, gages and pears. Fruit trees are valuable hosts for a huge variety of insects.
The fruit will be for the residents of Winslow and the St Laurence Food Cupboard.
Furze Down School
We are fortunate to be working with Furze Down School to improve their extensive school grounds and to increase the biodiversity by planting more trees and flowers. The aim is also to enable the children to enjoy being outside and get the maximum educational benefit and wellbeing from their surroundings.
